Mary is a chronic people-pleaser, always putting her boss's and boyfriend's wants and needs before her own. Her worst fears become reality when she dies unexpectedly and becomes the most hated customer service representative of all time: a Grim Reaper.

Throughout the series, Mary meets a gamut of wild characters, including her jaded reaper mentor Murray and the heavenly personifications of Births, Deaths and Marriages. But when Gareth, a human soul Mary tries to reap, gets accidentally trapped on earth, Mary learns that death is just as complicated as life. Mary must champion her inner voice and is forced to confront death head-on if she has any hope of saving Gareth and herself from the worst eternity ever.
