DEATH of a PEOPLE PLEASER
A dark comedic play about grim reapers and people pleasers finding their power and taking control of their life…or afterlife in some cases.
Mary puts the wants and needs of others before herself because she loves to help people and make them happy. When she dies in a freak incident her worst fears are realised when she becomes a grim reaper and must escort the recently deceased to the afterlife, but not before delivering them the worst news ever - that they're about to die and that she will be the one to kill them.
With the help of some unexpected friends and some hard lessons surrounding self-worth and kindness, could the end of her life actually mean a new beginning for Mary and possibly the death of her people pleasing?
This play explores dark themes but provides moments of reprieve through comedy allowing us to breathe before we find what we hope is a bright white light leading to somewhere better.
Death of a People Pleaser premiered at Sydney Fringe Festival 2024.
