WRITING
Kelly's writing explores themes of isolation, female empowerment, identity and mental health; utilising surreal and fantastical settings and often the lens of dark comedy to bring these themes to the fore in an entertaining way.Science fiction horror short film script ‘Connected’ was shortlisted for the Australian Writers’ Guild John Hinde Award for Excellence in Science Fiction and nominated for an AWGIE.
Dark comedies ‘Bloody Words’ and ‘Girl Talk’ were praised for their witty, original concepts and humorous dialogue.
‘Bloody Words’ was awarded best comedy and best short film at the London and Hollywood Movie Awards in 2023 and ‘Girl Talk’ was a finalist in the Short and Sweet Film Festival in 2019.
Kelly’s first stage play, ‘Death of a People Pleaser’ premiered at the Sydney Fringe Festival to an almost sold-out season and rave audience reviews.
She is currently developing the play script into a web series alongside several other projects in development, including a feature film, TV series and a second stage play.

Mary is your typical people pleaser, always putting the wants and needs of others before her own. Her worst fears become reality when she dies unexpectedly and is tasked to escort the recently deceased to the afterlife as a grim reaper, but not before delivering the worst news ever - they're about to die.
With the help of some unexpected friends, Mary learns some well-overdue lessons surrounding self-worth and defying expectations, discovering that sometimes life-changing opportunities can come in strange disguises.
Could the end of her old life lead to a new beginning for Mary and the death of her people pleasing?
